Wow, the implications for use of this breakthrough are just phenomenal.  Read on-

The Ecole Polytechnic Federale de Lausanne in league with Duke University formulated a technology that allows control of a virtual arm with touch and feel of the virtual objects using just brain activity and a bi-directional brain-machine interface.  This means that not only can one control a virtual hand with a brain implant but also receive impulses that make the brain sense the feeling of virtual object textures.

This not only paves the way for total virtual reality immersion, it makes it possible for those with prosthetic limbs to actually feel objects in real life.

By entering this real life- virtual world interface, quadriplegic individuals will be completely functional again.  They will be able to not only control movement of arms, hands, legs, body muscles but also experience the world around them with the aid of a wearable robotic exoskeleton.

How exciting! We are standing on the edge of the future!
