Barbara:         Welcome to another episode of Marketing Tips for Doctors. I’m your host, Dr. Barbara Hales. And today, we have with us Dr. Michele Ziskind who is a practicing dermatologist on the Main Line outside Philadelphia for over 30 years.

Dr. Ziskind completed her studies at New England Medical Center Department of Dermatology. She served as Chief of Dermatology at Lankenau Hospital, part of the Main Line Health System, for 20 years where she taught medical residents and lectured to medical staff. Dr. Ziskind has repeatedly been recognized as a top doctor by Main Line Today and Philadelphia magazines. Her patients often ask which products were best to use for their skin for antiaging and health. To help them out, Dr. Ziskind used the opportunity to create her own product, Simplicity by Michele.

The biggest benefit that she provides is that usage and application is easy despite the combination of ingredients. After working with a chemist for three years, she now produces a day serum, eye cream, and night cream. Simplicity by Michele is the culmination of 30 years of expertise in a jar coupled with the passion to nurture what makes you beautiful. Welcome to the show.

Michele:        Thank you, Barbara. Thanks for having me.

Barbara:         Besides combining all the best ingredients, what sort of features did you want the products to have?

Michele:        Well, it’s important when you use a product for your skin that you like it. It’s got to be smooth. It’s got to be what we call elegant. It’s got to go on well. I also wanted to make sure that it was a product that was safe to use, that is made in the United States, all the ingredients. And I also wanted to make sure that it was fragrance-free. So these things, its elegance, how it feels, its safety, and its likability were all very important to me.

Barbara:         Well, it certainly sounds since it’s fragrance-free and you were very careful with the ingredients that for those people that have allergies and sensitive skin that they would feel more comfortable using your product. What sort of ingredients are in the Night Renewal Facial Cream and how is it special?

Night Renewal Cream

Michele:        The Night Renewal Cream has many special ingredients that are used for antiaging and they are ones that are time-honored and have been shown to be efficacious or have a good effect.

One of the major ingredients in the night cream is retinol. That’s a form of vitamin A, Retin-A. It is a milder form so it’s less irritating than actual Retin-A which is a prescription-only product. Retin-A or retinol, what it does is it helps build collagen. And the other collagen-building ingredient is peptides.

Peptides are small amino acids that when they enter the skin they stimulate the body to create new collagen. And it also has antioxidants. Antioxidants have been shown — Studies in Duke, at Duke University and other studies have shown that using an antioxidant helps repair broken down DNA in the skin. And it also has glycolic acid. This is an alpha hydroxy acid that’s well known to smooth skin and hydrate. And it also has ceramides. These are molecules that act as a small sponge in the skin that sucks moisture in and holds it there. You have ingredients that are building collagen and helping to hydrate so that when you wake up in the morning you look better and feel good.

Barbara:         Well, that certainly beats having to go for collagen injections. While we’re talking, I’m looking at you and thinking you have, you know, such rosy smooth skin. I can’t imagine that you are not getting benefits from your own product. Tell me, what is the purpose of the Daily Antioxidant Facial Serum?

Daily Antioxidant Serum

Michele:        Okay. The Daily Antioxidant Serum is actually a preparatory base for your skin in the morning. So, you wake up in the morning. You wash your face. And you want to know that you have everything on there that’s going to help maintain healthy skin and be antiaging.

It includes antioxidants which again they’re shown to, that’s vitamin C and vitamin E, that are shown to reduce DNA damage in the skin. That’s the major ingredient. It also has peptides, those same molecules that help build collagen and strengthen the skin. It has glycolic acid that’s smoothing it out. And it also has ceramides. It is smooth and very silky sheer. And that allows you to put your makeup on directly over it without feeling a sticky undercoat. And also, you can add your own sunscreen directly over the product.

I do want to point out that it is not sunscreen. It’s a preparatory base so you know you’ve done everything you need to do for your skin for the day short of putting on the sunscreen.

Barbara:         Tell me, Michele, why is it that you chose not to have sunscreen in your products?

Michele:        Well, Barbara, there are many days especially now that we’re working from home and not going out, there are days that you really don’t need sunscreen because you’re not outdoors. The other issue is that sunscreens really are only effective for two to three hours and then you have to reapply them. And one of the problems with using sunscreens is that people get a false sense of security that they’re protected when they may not be fully protected.

Barbara:         Wow! We didn’t really know that. That’s really good to know.

Michele:        Yeah, yeah. So in fact, this is a good healthy product to use by day. And should you be outdoors and you need sunscreen, then you add it over that. And then you can continue to add your sunscreen as the day and your activities allow.

Barbara:         Why is it that you’ve chosen to use a special cream for the eyes?

Michele:        Well, the skin under the eyes is different from the rest of your body. Number one, it is the thinnest skin on the body. And so any kind of problem with loss of collagen, you’re going to see the wrinkling there first because it will lose its texture there first.

We wanted to treat the eyes differently and we wanted to make sure that the collagen stays fresh and healthy. Peptides, these small amino acids, are the primary ingredients in the eye cream. They penetrate the skin and they help the body produce more collagen. And it also contains, the eye cream also contains a new ingredient that reduces dark circles.

Dark circles often can be formed due to the deposition or the depositing of some hemoglobin in the skin that stains the skin. And what this ingredient does is it helps break down that hemoglobin and reduce the dark circles. And it also has an ingredient for lift. It is a subtle lift. If you add too much of this ingredient, it can actually dry out your skin. We added just enough to make you feel nice and smooth and you will feel the difference when you apply it. So, we’re very happy with the eye cream. And it has the things to keep your eyes looking good especially now when they’re so important behind the mask. It’s one of the things you see first when you see people.

Barbara:         That’s true. When people are looking at somebody with a mask, what you see is their crow’s feet and the wrinkles all around. So, it’s exciting that you have a product to remove those.

Michele:        Yes. We’re very excited about that.

Barbara:         Now, I understand that you offer it to your patients with a great result and they’ve been raving about it. But how about people who aren’t your patients? How do you let them know that it’s available to them?

Michele:        We do have a website. It’s www.simplicitybymichele.com, that’s Michele with one L, dot com. And you can go there and you can shop. You can read about the product. And you can see testimonials and reviews. And there’s also a Facebook page where you can interact and post and you know. That will also link you back to the website. So it’s www.simplicitybymichele.com.

Barbara:         That’s great. I’m sure my listeners will be eager to take a look and for them to also understand that when they see an opportunity to create something that will help their patients, that will be a good sideline. Besides, it’s something that they should consider. And you know, you’re a great example and an inspiration for them to do so. Thank you so much for being on our show today.
