Welcome and Introduction

Dr. Barbara Hales (00:02) Welcome to another episode of Marketing Tips for Doctors. I’m your host, Dr. Barbara Hales, and today we have with us Dr. Tracy Gapin. Dr. Gapin is a board-certified urologist turned performance and longevity expert. He’s the founder of the Gapin Institute and creator of Peak Launch MD, a platform empowering doctors to deliver next-generation care. Dr. Gapin is also a TEDx speaker and bestselling author. Welcome to the show.

Dr. Tracy Gapin (00:33) Thank you so much. It’s great to be here.

Transitioning to Performance and Longevity

Dr. Barbara Hales (01:03) Dr. Gapin, you’re known as a “recovering urologist.” Can you explain what you mean by that?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (01:14) I spent 25 years in traditional medicine as a urologist. But after hitting a wall with burnout and the limitations of the system, I decided to explore functional medicine, epigenetics, and longevity science. I turned my own health around and realized I found my passion again—helping others optimize their health. After almost 10 years of learning business and marketing, I left traditional medicine and never looked back.

Challenges in Traditional Medicine

Dr. Barbara Hales (03:23) Was your original practice concierge-based or traditional?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (03:28) It was traditional. I was seeing 50 to 60 patients a day, with very little time to spend with each person. It wasn’t the best experience for my patients, and it was incredibly frustrating for me as well. Now, in my concierge model, I can spend more time with each client, focusing on optimizing their health, not just treating symptoms.

Marketing and Client Engagement

Dr. Barbara Hales (05:26) How did you learn to market your new practice, and what advice would you give to others?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (05:39) I had no marketing background when I started. I had to figure out how to attract clients and build my brand. It all started by getting clear on who I serve and understanding their needs. Once I knew my ideal client and their struggles, I could speak to them authentically, and that made all the difference in building trust.

Social Media and Content Creation

Dr. Barbara Hales (08:21) Are you active on social media, and how has that contributed to your growth?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (08:30) I do a lot of social media, primarily on LinkedIn and Instagram. My team helps me manage it, but I always make sure my voice is authentic. We repurpose content from podcasts and webinars, turning them into bite-sized pieces for social platforms, which has been incredibly effective.

The Power of Performance Medicine

Dr. Barbara Hales (09:49) You talk a lot about performance in your practice. What does that mean in your field?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (09:57) When I talk about performance, I’m not just referring to athletic performance. For me, peak performance is about helping people function at their highest level every day—whether that’s at work or at home. It’s about having the energy and drive to be your best self in every area of life.

Advice for Physicians Transitioning to a New Model

Dr. Barbara Hales (12:04) What advice do you have for doctors who want to make the transition from traditional medicine to a more holistic or concierge model?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (12:15) It all starts with mindset. Many doctors are afraid to make the leap because they think they won’t be able to make money outside of the traditional insurance model. But the truth is, people want personalized care, and there’s a huge opportunity in providing that. It’s all about believing in your own knowledge and understanding that you can offer something valuable to people who need it.

Authenticity in Marketing

Dr. Barbara Hales (17:12) What’s one key tip you’d give doctors to avoid mistakes in marketing themselves?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (17:21) Be authentic. Don’t market something just to make a sale—market something you truly believe in. When you’re honest and transparent, your audience will trust you. Focus on helping people and solving real problems rather than pushing for a sale. That approach will always resonate more.

Content Creation as a Marketing Strategy

Dr. Barbara Hales (20:29) If a doctor is just starting out with marketing, what should they focus on?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (20:36) Content creation is key. You need to produce authentic content that speaks directly to your ideal clients. Whether it’s videos, blog posts, or podcasts, the content should be relatable and solve problems for your audience. This builds trust and establishes you as a thought leader in your field.

Closing Thoughts

Dr. Barbara Hales (23:23) Where can our listeners learn more about you and get in touch?

Dr. Tracy Gapin (23:31) You can visit my website at www.gapininstitute.com, or email me directly at doctracy@gapininstitute.com. I’d be happy to talk to anyone interested in learning more about my program or how they can implement similar strategies in their practice.

Conclusion

Dr. Barbara Hales (25:37) It’s been a pleasure speaking with you, Dr. Gapin. Thank you for sharing your insights. This has been another episode of Marketing Tips for Doctors with Dr. Tracy Gapin. Until next time—bye!
